Greg Champion's Surprise New Album

What defines Greg Champion? Sport songs, Christmas ditties, or his diverse country-folk albums? Maybe it's none of that.

However you've perceived Greg in the past, his eyebrow-raising album Emergence will challenge everything you think you may know about his music.

Among footy parodies, anthems and humorous Aussie-styled songs, Greg Champion also writes plenty of moving and story-telling songs. But Greg has never made an album anything like Emergence. Adding a surprise twist to a colourful career, Emergence is a marked departure from the usual country-folk style.

Greg's recent songwriting has moved towards roots, rock, pop and swing with even a touch of jazz. And the result is Emergence. From the opening track, the sparkling pop-rock You Have A Golden Heart, to the dark corridors of Black Dog Hotel, to the aphoristic, soulful When A Woman Sets Her Heart Upon A Man, Greg's music is suddenly more urban and contemporary.

Happily, Greg hasn't neglected his unpluggable sense of humour. The minor key grooves of I Do Like To Be In Abu Dhabi and See You In The Bahamas, coupled with God Bless The Developer and Say Hi To Your Mum, add up to a smorgo banquet of urban sounds and stories, with wit.

This unmistakable shift in Greg Champion's sound on Emergence is due not only to such different songs, but to a new engineer, producer and studio. Greg's discovery of young gun Ben Hense's studio and skills has created an ideal partnership to present Greg's fresh group of songs with the finest production.

The Proof Of The Pudding Is The Pudding, as Greg's old pal Guru Bob would say. Grab a copy of Emergence, put it on, listen to it, and form your own view on what a true emergence this is for Greg Champion. Available on itunes and soon here.
