Return to music & lyrics

50 FAVE FOOTY Ditties is the sixth CD of AFL footy songs released by Greg Champion & The Coodabeen Champions since 1995.

That was the year That's The Thing About Football, Champs' most famous football song, became the anthem for footy lovers everywhere due to its use by Channel 7 on all TV game coverage.

ABC Radio's The Coodabeen Champions, of which Greg Champion is the resident musician, has been heard on radio continuously for 30 years.

This latest CD takes a new tack. It offers 46 live-to-air funny footy songs: no studio re-recording, just live performance straight from the airwaves.

50 Fave Footy Ditties provides the immediacy of the humour generated by the institutional Coodabeens on their now legendary show. Four studio tracks round out the album, including the original anthemic That's The Thing About Football, which Greg has performed live at two Grand Finals. The other three studio tracks are rare or new works.

Greg Champion is Australia's foremost, perhaps only, musician to have enjoyed a wonderful career writing and performing well-loved songs about Aussie Rules and cricket.

Fifty Fave Footy Ditties is the latest in Champs'x canon of sports music albums, for every sports nut who loves a laugh.
